Sort Documents

How to sort accumulated documents using a limited workspace, simple categories, a decision rule, and short sessions.

Do not empty every drawer at once. Choose one contained batch and a stopping time.

Use simple categories: act, keep, digitize, ask, and discard. Process each item once when possible. Create a separate list for actions rather than leaving papers in the sorting area.

Keep only documents with a legal, financial, practical, or meaningful purpose. When retention rules are uncertain, verify them before discarding sensitive records.

End by labeling the remaining storage and scheduling the action pile. The goal is a usable system, not a perfect archive.
